Sorata is a small town in the La Paz Department in the Bolivian Andes. It is a somewhat popular weekend getaway and a relaxing base camp for a growing number of hikers. It includes several small hotels, including a converted Italian mansion. In colonial days, Sorata provided a link to the Alto Beni goldfields and rubber plantations, and a gateway to the Amazon Basin.
Being in Sorata is very relaxing, since it is surrounded by a lot of nature, and has many places of interest for the visitor, one of the most visited and popular attractions is the Grotto of San Pedro, it is an immense cavern located about 10 Kilometers away. the population is about 30 minutes from the main square.
